Pray for Me

Writer's picture: Ps StephenPs Stephen

We Aussies can be a fairly independent lot. However, the downside to this are isolation, fear of vulnerability and walls to deeper relationships.

Rom 15:30-33

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me .“ (Romans 15:30 NIV )

I remember a man at a previous church who was extremely independent—he would never ask for help because in his mind it showed him as weak and he was worried that if he accepted help, the other person would have something over him. Now you might think that he was a bit over the top with his thinking. But let me ask you the question, “When was the last time you asked for help?”

We Aussies can be a fairly independent lot. However, the downside to this are isolation, fear of vulnerability and walls to deeper relationships.

As God’s people, we are not to be dependent on ourselves but rather on God. And in our love for each other, there is encouragement, help, and community that can be found as God’s people. And one of the deepest ways we can walk with each other and God is to pray for each other.

Paul was a strong, mature Christian as we read through his letter to the Romans. He had been following Christ for about 23 years. The letter was written from Corinth near the end of his third missionary journey. Many churches had been planted and many people saved through his ministry. He had built good teams, and they were serving in many churches which he started. Does the successful Paul ask for help? Is he dependent on God and his people? Listen to his words to the Romans:

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me .“ (Romans 15:30 NIV )

Paul invites the Roman church to join him—to walk with him in the struggle of his Christian Walk by praying for him. There is no more special invitation than to pray for each other. And there is no more special privilege than to bring together our prayers to the Lord.

Who are you inviting to pray for you?

Today, let us invite at least one person to pray for us. To let down the walls and invite them into our world. And see together how God answers those prayers.

God bless.
